The good and bad A review of Marriott Marina Del Rey
We stay in this hotel yearly for conference. After a two week stay, I have to say that while the hotel is lovely, and the staff bends over backward to take care of you and correct problems, it still has issues that make the cost of a nights stay questionable. The hotel has beautiful views no matter which room you take, (try for a higher floor for best views).
The rooms have been recently re-done and are lovely although a little dark.
Unfortunately in the re-model all refrigerators have been removed from the guest rooms and now the hotel only has around 20 to share among guests. For travelers who stay as long as we do each year, this perk was missed. Also I understood from others that waterfall showers had been installed in some of the rooms. Such a shame they weren't added to every room. We noticed in most of our rooms (we had a total of over 100) that the toilets ran constantly.
Although we were told by hotel staff that a change is in the works, the elevator system is HORRIBLE. You could wait for 5-15 minutes each morning and evening for an elevator, being passed numerous times with completely full cars. The lobby bar has been updated a bit, but is fairly uncomfortable for casual conversation. A really foul music is piped in continuosly and it is too loud and very disruptive. Also, bar and food service in the lobby is extremely slow.
The staff at this hotel is fantastic. You could not ask for more helpful, polite people. We noticed that they made a point of always calling us by name in hallways, elevators etc. Being asked for things by 100 + weary, tired and out of sorts people is a challenge always, but the staff at Marina Del Rey met the challenge admirably.
