The best reason to visit the Adirondacks... A review of Saranac Club and Inn
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful and relaxing week at the Saranac Club and Inn. We usually don't stay at B+Bs, but the reviews at this site combined with the Inn's web page prompted us to take a chance. We're really glad we did. Tim, the GM, could not have been more accommodating and friendly. He quickly put us at ease and made us feel like long-lost friends vs. paying guests.
We stayed in a lovely, quiet room with a fireplace and veranda. It had a huge closest and a super-comfortable bed (those Tempur-pedic mattresses are like sleeping on a cloud). The rest of the Inn was very nicely decorated with plenty of spots to curl up and read a book, enjoy a fire, or nap. The Inn has been newly renovated so everything is crisp and clean (and I'm particular about such things).
Every day started with a delicious breakfast prepared by Tim. Afternoon tea is also available; however, we were always out taking in the sites. We did make a habit of returning early evening for cocktails by the fire. Just as you are ready to tuck into bed, Tim places some freshly baked cookies, plus whatever you would like to drink on a table outside your room. No better way to ensure sweet dreams.
If you have never been to the Lake Placid area - IT IS BEAUTIFUL, but be warned that by late October most of the Summer activities are closed and the Winter activities are not yet open; therefore, there is not as much to do. Our next trip to the area will be in the Summer.
There are more dining options available in Lake Placid than in Sarnace Lake; however, in both towns, you can find some tasty and casual dining spots (Morgan's 11 in Saranac Lake has great pizza). Due to the extreme sports-centric nature of the area, there aren't many upscale shopping options. You can always make the two-hour drive up to Montreal if you need to exercise your credit card instead of your body!!!
All-in-all, a terrific place that I would not hesitate to recommend to family and friends.
