Thanksgiving at Lake Quinault A review of Lake Quinault Lodge
The Olympic peninsula was magnificent and the lodge has a scenic location right on the shores of Lake Quinault. We had a room in the 400 building and it was cozy, with a balcony overlooking the lake. The downside was the poor noise insulation and the presence of every family in Washington with three or more children. The restaurant couldn't accommodate the number of guests and we ended up dining at the mercantile across the street. The owner of the mercantile is charming and stayed open late to make us a pizza. We returned to the mercantile the next morning for breakfast where his wife served us piping hot bacon and eggs. The sweet potato and hazelnut pancakes at the lodge we'd had the day before were better, but not enough to justify the hour and a half wait. Overall, the lodge and its restaurant are very appealing but only if you have a high tolerance for quantities of shrieking children and very long waits.
