Texas-sized luxury A review of The Fairmont Dallas

First a disclaimer - I did not check out any other hotels in Dallas, and was there on business so didn't get to see many of the sights. That being said, it was a short cab-ride (or, apparently a 4-5 block walk) to the West End (it was raining so we didn't walk), and it was central to all of the places we needed to visit for our business dealings.

This hotel fully lives up to the Fairmont standard, and does so at reasonable rates. I was in a suite which was almost 800 square feet, all decorated and furnished very tastefully, for $200 a night. Probably one of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in, and certainly the biggest. Service was also excellent.

The one complaint I have is a common one to most of my stays - the nickle and diming for phone and internet charges. $3.00 a minute or so is appalling in this day and age. Other than that though, it was a great stay in a very nice hotel.

PS - The disparity in the reviews on this site is probably due to Fairmont taking over and renovating in 2003. I would ignore them as they certainly don't reflect the current state of affairs.
