Terrible weekend A review of Minnewaska Lodge

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Minnewaska Lodge over a recent weekend for a quick (and hopefully quiet) getaway from Manhattan. We were, to say the least, highly dissapointed in the Lodge. While the surroundings were beautiful (including the nearby Catskill Mts), the Minnewaska Lodge left us feeling that we hadn't had the nice, quiet weekend we sought away from Manhattan. Two main complaints: (1) the Lodge is so poorly constructed that you can hear every footstep, every conversation, every sneeze, of any adjoining room in the Lodge (and we were in a corner room). (2) I booked a room facing the mountains with a King size bed and was instead given a room with two small beds facing the parking lot. When we complained, we received a small discount, an explanation that no other room was available all weekend and significant attitude from the hotel manager. This was inexcusable. The free breakfast was mediocre at best. While the nearby Mohonk Mt Lodge is overpriced and the food is sub-par, look for some alternative -- anything other than the Minnewaska Lodge -- unless you don't value privacy, quiet surroundings, and assurances that the room you booked is the room you will be checked into.
