Superb Hotel! A review of Hotel de Orangerie
We have just returned from a six night stay at the Hotel De Orangerie and to be perfectly honest I cannot fault it! From the moment of our arrival we were made to feel welcome and shown great kindness. Bruges is a familiar haunt for our family ( we love good food and wine ) and this was our first time at the hotel - last time we stayed at the De Tuilerieen and were not impressed - and personally I would not look further than the Orangerie in future. The decor is stylish and the rooms beautifully furnished, as you would expect from a hotel of this calibre.
The hotel's location is excellent and central ,yet our room was very quiet. The room was on two levels - a sofa bed in the downstairs lounge for our son, along with the main bathroom, and upstairs the main bedroom and seperate toilet and basin. An excellent arrangement that also included two televisions and a DVD player.
All the staff we encountered were friendly and eager to please, particularly the front desk who smiled and offered help and advice throughout our stay. The De Orangerie does not serve evening meals - quite common in Bruges as there are so many excellent restaurants on your doorstep - but breakfasts were marvellous and very relaxing overlooking the canal - in good weather you can take breakfast outside on the terrace.
All in all a wonderful time! The hotel was very child friendly and our six year old had a great time. If you are travelling with children and they tire of the town itself try Boudewijn Seapark, approx. 5-10 mins in a taxi, for a really great escape - Dolphinarium, carousel, roller-coaster, birds of prey etc. Fabulous!
Also well worth a visit is Vineeto's Retaurant and wine bar on Oude Burg, about 2 minutes from the hotel. The owners are SO friendly and happy to accommodate children. They have an excellent wine list and serve either tapas or have a more formal menu. We thoroughly enjoyed both!
Bruges is a great place to visit and I can thoroughly recommend the Hotel de Orangerie.
