Super hotel in super spot!!!! A review of Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

Simply put, this is a great hotel!! Wonderful hotel and staff in an unrivaled location!

This is a classic u-shaped hotel that is built on the side of a hill. The beautiful open air lobby is at the base of the "u" and it opens to a panoramic view of the Pacific ocean. There was always a singer in the lobby in the evening that many would listen to while having cocktails or upon returning from dinner outside the hotel. An interesting oddity of the hotel is because it is on a hill your room is likely below the lobby---some confusing times in the elevator in the wee hours of the night!!

Our hotel room was spotless and well appointed. Minibar, big lanai, very soft bed. The color television was somewhat difficult to see while laying in bed but who comes to Maui to watch tv??? Nice bathroom with floor to ceiling marble and a seperate shower from the tub. And don't forget the requisite robes in the closet!

The pool area is large, well maintained and well landscaped. There was never a problem finding a lounge chair (meaning I did NOT have to get up at 7am to run to the pool area to "save" a chair. It is a three tiered pool but there are no slides, rope swings, etc. There is a 9 hole putting course next to the pool (they put out equipment so you don't have to lug yours downstairs) as well as a bocci ball area.

The ocean is beautiful, always in sight but is bit further away than most ocean front hotels. To get to the beach involves a short walk or a ride on a golf cart shuttle.

There are great restaurants on site. I hate a breakfast buffet every morning and it was delicious. They also changed many food items daily so it did not become monotonous during a long stay. It is an open air eating area as is their fine dining area. Also excellent.

The staff are wonderful here. They really try to learn your name so that by halfway through the vacation they are addressing you by name on sight. Very, very helpful and professional.

The location is also wonderful. You are next to the best golf courses on the island. You need not go anywhere else to golf! You are close to Lahina aand Kannapali for shopping and restaurants but in a secluded area so that you do not feel like you are on restaurant row.

A great hotel!!
