Stunningly average A review of Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks
Spent a quick nite at the Sable Oaks Marriott. When they say it's right across from the Maine Mall they mean it -- have fun battling the traffic. The hotel itself is nice, as expected of any Marriott. The parking was disappointing - we had to park in an office building lot next door and hope we didn't get towed. Whether that's because of the snow banks, or just limited parking, I couldn't tell.
The location is close enough to downtown Portland (10-15 minute drive), but for those that really want to get out and walk around you might be better off with a downtown hotel.
The staff were very nice, except for one lost room service waiter who ended up knocking on my door unexpectedly. Extra points for the breakfast buffet, which was surprisingly good. Get the package deal that comes with the breakfast, I recommend it.
This Marriott is surrounded by half a dozen other hotels, and I think next time I might try a different one. Not because this one was bad, but because there's nothing to recommend about it, either.
