Still not finished! A review of Meriton Serviced Apartments Kent Street
I stayed at the Meriton on Kent St for 2 nights on a business trip. Normally I stay at the Meriton World Tower but they did not have any 1br apartments available and I was offered this as an alternative. After staying at the Kent St, I would say that the World Tower is definately better, and next time will try both the World Tower and Pitt St locations before booking into this one.
My room was on level 16 which is the first level of apartments. I could hear quite a lot of noise from George Street as well, but luckily it didn't keep me up.
The room was large enough for me, so no complaints there. The couch was comfy, the TV big enough and the shower was nice.
The room, was however directly opposite the garbage disposal room on the floor which had a revolting small about it so I limited the number of times I came and went from the room. You could also smell it a bit in my apartment (in the kitchen) so I stayed away from the door when in the apartment.
I was surprised that the building is still not finished since it opened back in November. My windows still had the builders markings and tape on them and were quite filthy. Also there was a lot of builders debris outside my room, and whilst I didn't see any builders, there was a warning sign to say that you should keep the curtains closed when getting changed etc in case the workmen happened to look in ?!?
We parked beneath the building in the carpark for a fee of $25 per night, which, once you get past the doorman (who normally didn't speak very good english) by explaining that you're staying in the apartments, is quite difficult to negotiate and we were lucky to escape without several accidents.
There is a supermarket a short walk away in the World Tower complex, which was handy for those late night snacks and breakfast supplies ... however not as handy as when I stayed in World Tower.
Overall, it was a nice enough hotel for a 2 night visit, but if I had stayed any longer and I would have either asked for a different room or moved to a different hotel due to the smell of the garbage disposal, the close proximity of the room to George Street noise and the builders debris directly outside my room.
