Springfield Renaissance Not Up to Renaissance Standards A review of President Abraham Lincoln Hotel & Confernece Center
I recently stayed one night here. It's not a bad hotel, but it's certainly not up to the standards I have experienced at other Renaissance Hotels. The hotel could use some serious updating and renovating. My room was large and clean with a view of the capitol. All of the furnishings, however, were worn and scuffed and seemed of an inferior quality. The color scheme was very unappealing - - a weird combination of greens, reds, and grays. I couldn't figure out what the designer was trying to accomplish with this odd combination. The bed was ok but a little soft. Service was good, not great. The location was very close to the Lincoln sites. Since this was the purpose of my visit, this was a plus. The restaurant food was average while the service was very good - - at least for breakfast which was the only meal I ate there. Parking was convenient and cost $5.00 per night. Overall, you probably won't do much better in Springfield. The Hilton is directly across the street but I did not check it out except for the restaurant on the 30th floor. The food was good and the view was nice. I would stay here again, but only for a night. Definitely not a place to stay if you want upscale accomodations and service.
