Something not quite right... A review of Sofitel Miami
I recently stayed at this hotel enroute to the caribbean for work. The airport shuttle only runs ever 30 minutes, but I only saw it after more than 60. Call before hand and find out when the shuttle runs, and consider a cab. 60 minutes of waiting is a long time.
When I arrived, I thought the lobby was nice, but not as nice as I expected. I tried to get some information about local shopping, and had moderate success.
The room was fine, but for the money, not nearly as nice as I had hoped. I am going through Miami again in January and am going to try the Summerfield Suites. No onsite restaurant, but a web rate of $118 is a bit more palatable.
I did eat lunch and dinner in the on-site restaurant at the Sofitel, and I would recommend it. Both the steak sandwich I had for lunch, as well as the tuna I had for dinner, were brilliant. Very much above average for hotel food, and worth the money.
The service at the hotel was spotty, as another reviewer said, something isn't quite right. Someone else also said "feels like france". I've spent time in France and I would agree, but not in a good way. One thing I think we do well in North America is hotels, and there is something disconcerting about getting spotty service at mainstream rates in Miami.
Its not a terrible spot to stay, but I was looking for classy boutique style and found an odd mismash of things. I'll keep looking for my Miami hotel near the airport. I'll even go downtown if I can find a nice, true, boutique experience...
