Small yet Clean A review of Nevsky Grand Hotel
Nevsky 22 is by all means in the center of town. Its a B&B place. Rooms are dinky for want of a smaller term. Very clean and each floor has a dedicated maid. Most of the maids we met over our 6 day stay were nice and efficient, but spoke no english. They do work 24 hours so getting in late is no issue. Breakfast is simple yet sufficient, good choice of coffee.
We had issues with management when we only enquired about a tour and the next morning got a call saying the driver was waiting for us. when we clarified that we had only enquired, the girl on the other end got acrimonious and threteaned us with all kinds of dire concequences. Matter was finally settled for a few euros, but this truly left a bad taste.
Culturally the city is fantastic, with the Heritage, St. Isaacs and Neva bridge opening being must see.
In general, SPB seems to be a broad spectrum city with people splurging money on one side and others who will steal for a meal. We had a few unpleasant episodes including loosing a wallet with euros and cards - this happened on Nevsky Prospekt the town's premier street.
While friendly enough, the city is not the greatest place for brown skinned folk. One advices caution with money, travel and being alone on streets late night. Ideally find a friend or contact from your city/country and go by their advice.
