Slightly Below Embassy Standards A review of Embassy Suites Tampa - Downtown Convention Center
Unlike most of my reviews, I'll leave out the fluff and get straight to the point.
Here are the positives: Beautifully designed property with excellent skyline views of Tampa; Standard "Embassy" style rooms; Airport shuttle departs hourly roundtrip to TPA; Above average dinner offerings in the hotel restaurant; Great location with easy access to expressways, downtown shopping, downtown dining; Five minute drive to Ybor City; Two blocks from the aquarium and directly across the street from the Waterfront Marriott for sports bar patrons.
Now, here are the negatives: The hotel is a new property and it's almost two months old with apparent growing pains. The parking deck and a few of the floors are still under construction so the mandatory valet parking provides limited car security options. The front desk staff is very inexperienced and unfamiliar with the redemption of Hilton Honor points. Therefore, several of the guests had to use the Embassy's business center to print out proof of redemption, rules for using points and corporate contact info before being allowed to check in. Nevertheless, there are an unusual number of advertisements welcoming Hilton Honor members and encouraging Hilton Honor membership. What's my point!?! A Hilton owned property should not welcome Honor members until they are knowledgeable in servicing point redemptions and member benefits. WARNING .. WARNING.. Please be very alert concerning the taxes/fees on your room charges during check in and check out. Competency at the front desk is very inconsistent during the various shifts so keep track of all charges (drinks, food, room service) and look over your hotel bill very carefully..
More negatives: The parking deck is still under construction. Therefore, there is mandatory valet parking offered at this property with inexperienced and language challenged valets. It is very uncomfortable for guests to trust their vehicles with an unorganized valet service. Currently, the valet service is slow and quantity focused with a minimal emphasis on quality. In addition, even though the rooms are new, expect marginal services from housekeeping in cleaning rooms and providing cribs.
Minor and needs improvement: The traditional "Embassy" breakfast is very limited on menu offerings. However, the cooks are uniquely skilled and attentive in preparing omelets. I am a fan and repeat customer of Embassy Suites so I hope this property can get its act together real soon.
