Simply the best! A review of Turnberry Isle Miami, Autograph Collection
We spend three glorious days in this hotel (June 30-July 2). What can I say? We don't golf, and we don't play tennis. And we weren't particularly interested in shopping at the Aventura Mall. So why would we go here? We went on a lark, and because I love Fairmont (having stayed at the Frontenac in Quebec City). Well, this Fairmont is simply the best hotel I've ever stayed at (or was it the Frontenac?). Whichever, Fairmont knows how to treat guests, period. ALL the other hotel chains should take lessons from Fairmont. Staff here go out of their way in ways I've never seen to make sure your every need is attended to. You are addressed by your name by each employee (as they get to know you.) Very nice touch.
The resort is set in the middle of the clutter that is Ft. Lauderdale, yet you'd never know it. It appears to be a tropical paradise. The grounds are stunning. I can't imagine what it must take to keep everything going. I found myself wondering the grounds just looking at the plants, etc. My wife couldn't believe I was doing that! It's just .. not me, but there I was! The complex has several buildings, each simply beautiful! The main entrance/building is breath-taking. On two days, I simply sat in the overstuffed chairs in the parlor room and read my book .... and dozed off.
Our room was striking. It was almost too big, and included not just a private balcony with a view of the pool, but we also had a door that opened onto a much larger patio, which I imagine is used for larger social events. Our bed was huge and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was filled with amenities which my wife enjoyed, including the whirlpool tub.
The restaurants are top notch. It's not cheap here (as you might well imagine), but taste and presentation are big here. The breakfast buffet, which was included in our rate, was simply unbelievable. We never ate lunch the whole time. On our last night, we ate in the Grill Bar. I had the seafood smorgasbord. It was $38 but well worth it. Try the shrimp. You might not want to sample anything else, and it would still be worth the $38! My wife had the crab cake which she said was magnificent.
The resort also has a place on the beach. They can take you there in their shuttle bus (which also takes you to the Aventura Mall). I found the beachfront property nice, but it's the weak link in this resort, if you want to call it that. Still, it's nice. I heard from the bartender back at the resort that there are big plans to redevelop the beach front property, but they will still make it available to resort guests no matter what ultimately happens.
I would recommend this resort to anyone, anytime. It's simply the best I've ever encountered. By the way, our package was called "All the Best." It's a very apt description, and worth every single penny of it.
