Should Have Been Better ... A review of Marriott Oakland City Center
I stayed at the Marriott Oakland City Center for five nights in February 2005. Check-in is 3:00 pm, but don't expect that rooms will be ready at that time. I arrived at 4:30 pm and had to wait about 30 minutes for my room. There were other guests waiting too. My room was located on the Conceirge Level. It was very warm and the air conditioning was inadequate. (On the second day I went out and bought a small fan.) The rooms lack sound proofing. I could hear my neighbors and everything that went on in the hallway. The fan in the bathroom didn't work and there were cobwebs on the ceiling. Further, one of the large mirrored closet doors had come off its track and was leaning against the closet. It took me two days to get someone to take care of it. In general, I found the housekeeping staff to be less than enthusiastic. The room service menu is uninspired and the food is mediocre. I encountered a couple of hotel staff members in desparate need of an attitude adjustment. Everything previously written about the neighborhood is accurate. Forget about taking an evening stroll. The only reason I stayed at this hotel was because I was attending an event held at the adjoining Oakland Convention Center. My five night stay at this Marriott property cost in excess of $1100 (not including tips). It wasn't worth it.
