Safe, inexpensive hotel right by the beach A review of Windsor Martinique Hotel
This hotel is actually closer to the beach than it advertises. While not facing the beach, it is less than 50 meters from the sand. I could actually see the ocean from my window! The bedroom was very small (about what I'd expect in Paris), but otherwise was excellent. It was very clean, had air conditioning, a small window, desk, and a decent sized bathroom. The staff were helpful and the breakfast buffet was well supplied with fresh fruit, juices, pastries, bacon, eggs, cereal, yogurt, etc... It was nice to be so close to the beach, and the staff were happy to flag a taxi for me and tell the taxi driver (in Portuguese) where to take us. The location is fantastic-for exploring Copacabana and Ipanema by foot, or for having a short (and cheap) taxi ride to the tourist spots like Corcovado and Sugar Loaf. I'd highly recommend this as a safe, inexpensive hotel with easy access to the best of Rio.
