Room from Hell A review of Stagecoach Hotel and Casino
I can't believe this hotel gets any kind of favorable acknowledgement in the travel guides. The long walk down the outside corridor that was sided by a 9-foot tall iron fence should have been an early clue. Then, the room, even with all the lights on, had the comfy appeal of a dungeon. There was a partially paralyzed cockroach crawling across the bathroom floor. Of the 6 lightbulbs over the sink, 3 were nonfunctioning. The pool, which is on the other side of the iron fence, carries a close resemblance to a pond covered with duckweed. We asked for a refund 15 minutes after checking in and found another motel. If we were to return to the Death Valley area, we would spend the extra bucks and stay INSIDE the park. The only thing that Beatty has going for it is the nice public library and the last gas station before Death Valley.
