Romantic, Intimate, Affordable Getaway at Sibonne Beach Club A review of Sibonne Beach Hotel
We just returned from a week long vacation on beautiful Provo. We were on a budget, and prefer small, intimate settings rather than big all inclusive deals, so we researched and found Sibonne. I was nervous before we arrived -it all seemed to good to be true - an intimate small hotel with a gorgeous restaurant, comfortable rooms, and directly on a pristine strech of white sand and blue water, for only $99 a night. When we arrived, however, my fears were put to rest. The Sibonne is exactly how it looks in pictures (www.sibonne.com). The rooms are very comfortable - we were in the cheapest, smallest one (the internet value facing the garden), and still found it to be nice (the bed wasn't the best, a little hard for my tastes, but we planned to spend our time napping at the beach all day, anyway!). The beach apartment looks particularly fabulous as it is directly on the beach and really big with a kitchen, and the second floor rooms with the vaulted ceilings and great balconies also seem beautiful. Sibonne is not a luxury hotel there is no room service, no concierge, no pool bar, etc - but the ambiance there is amazingly romantic, quiet, and peaceful. There is also no huge pool, just a small one that no one really uses - why would you swim in a pool when the turquoise ocean is two feet away!? An evening hot tub would have been nice, though. The Sibonne beach is, to me, the best one on Grace Bay. There were hardly any people around us until you walked all the way down to Beaches or the Point. The sand is like powdered sugar, and the ocean more blue than I have ever seen it. Provo itself was great, but it is unfortunate the vast amount of huge construction that is going to make the island more populated. We were able to walk from one end of Grace Bay Beach to another (9 miles or something) without seeing very many people besides the crowds in front of some resorts (Beaches, Allegro, Club Med). Driving around the island, we found that very much of it is natural and has no construction on it, but the roads are pretty bad, and we were unable to make it to Malcolm Beach, even with our four wheel drive rented jeep. The food in Provo was pretty good - our favorite places were Hemingways (at the Sands) and Bay Bistro (at Sibonne), but these were the pricier places. We also enjoyed less expensive meals at Tiki Hut and Calico Jacks. We took one excursion with Silver Deep, a half day snorkel trip, which was really fun, although the windy weather made the snorkeling not as great as it usually is in TCI. Our guide was excellent, though, and we really enjoyed our stops on Iguana island and on another small unhabited cay. So, overall, our vacation was wonderful. If you are looking for a small romantic, afforable getaway, the Sibonne is the perfect setting.
