Romantic getaway A review of The Sainte Claire
Having had one event here 10 years ago, I knew that the public rooms were beautiful and the food from Il Fornaio quite good, but I had not stayed here at the time. This past weekend I stayed in this little gem of a hotel. The staff were friendly and very attentive, despite a busy wedding and graduation schedule. Our room, while small by today's standards, was beautifully furnished and decorated. It's smaller size lent it a very intimate and romantic feel, which was further enhanced by the lovely ceiling in the bathroom painted with clouds and butterflies. Breakfast in Il Fornaio, the hotel's restaurant, was good, though not excellent. There are some detractions to the hotel. You can hear sounds from the next rooms, though we only heard a baby crying and nothing else. They were understaffed, which meant we waited too long for someone to take care of the air conditioning problem (it finally came on by itself 40 minutes after we turned it on) and a long wait for the valet to bring the car up. However, after the initial AC problem, it worked fine, and we just called for our car to be brought up earlier than we really needed it so it was always waiting for us.Despite the detractions, we would definitely stay at this hotel. It's charm and warmth make up for any of the minor issues.
