Repeat Visitor A review of Resort at Squaw Creek

We've stayed at the Resort at Squaw Creek probably 7 different times, always in the winter and usually around the holidays. After staying anywhere that often, I think it would be impossible to give any place an "excellent" rating, but we do keep coming back for more.

It's a wonderful mountain lodge, located next to it's own chair lift connecting it to Squaw Valley Ski Area. Guests are dropped off under the porte cochere and enter a beautiful stone and glass lobby with a beautiful view, with a large roaring fire. After check-in, your bellman brings the bags to your room, allowing you to take your time as you walk out of the lobby, past the ice skating rink, stone waterfalls and waterslide, through a narrow promanade of upscale shops, galleries, and a deli. As you continue on towards the smoked black glass guest room tower, you will look down and see the pool complex (which is heated even in the dead of winter) and some of the hot tubs scattered around.

Also, you will look out through the valley, over the golf course, and see the gondola going up the mountain. As you enter the guest room tower, a bank of elevators take you up to the 12 or so floors of suites and rooms.

We've only stayed in suites, but the rooms appear normal sized and decently decorated. There are multiple types of suites, most of them 1 bedroom. We always ask for a fireplace panoramic suite, which has a huge amount of glass and is larger than the other fireplace suites.

Critics need to remember this is a winter ski resort, so I don't fault the hotel for not providing the finest in interior materials.

The holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) are a "magical" time to be a guest there, with holiday dinners and events. In addition, celebrities are not an uncommon site.

Pros "Resort" look and feel Proximety to skiing and other winter sports Pools Ice skating rink Panoramic suites

Cons Cost (rooms, tips, daily charge) Spartan interior guest room design Hit and miss service (remember that this is in the mountains, the employee pool is not as big)

We keep coming back!
