Red Cliffs Lodge Was Wonderful A review of Red Cliffs Lodge
I recently stayed 5 nights at Red Cliffs Lodge and had a wonderful stay. The setting is stunning, right on the Colorado River surrounded by towering red sandstone cliffs. The room was very attractive, faced the river with a private patio, and the mini kitchenette came in handy for preparing picnic lunches. A complementary continental breakfast with a lot of choices is served and you can et it on the restaurant deck overlooking the river. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, by the way. Everyone associated with the lodge was very friendly and accomodating, from the front desk staff to our waiter to the housekeeping staff.
The lodge offers some special amenities. There is a winery on the premises and wine tastings (and sales) are routinely available. The lodge is part of a larger working ranch, so they offer trail rides. I strongly recommend spending the money for one, since you ride through amazing scenery on a semi-challenging trail (up and down some small ravines) with very pleasant wranglers to guide you. My travelling companion had only been on a horse once before in her life, but had a great time. The trails are billed as "those made famous by John Wayne," and the ranch was indeed used in filming many movies. A small museum area in the main building shows posters, photos, and other memorabilia from movies shot there and nearby.
Understand that the ranch is about 25 minutes from Moab with its restaurants and services, but it's worth every mile to get the seclusion and ambiance provided by Red Cliffs Lodge.
