Reasonable and acceptable - not the Taj Mahal A review of Nassau Palm Hotel

My husband and I just returned from Nassau, where we stayed four nights at the Holiday Inn Junkanoo. After we booked, we read the reviews, and were prepared for the worst. It wasn't that bad. We were given the type of room that we requested, which often doesn't happen at much nicer hotels. We were on the top floor (5th), over looking the harbour. The room was acceptable, about what you would find at a regular Holiday Inn in the states. In spite of what we had read about the attitudes we might encounter, we found everyone to be polite and helpful, if a little slow.Another vacationer gave us a heads up about another potention problem, which fortunately didn't affect us. He had booked thru the Holiday Inn website. I don't know what rated he booked at , but they were charging him an extra $5/day for electricity and $3.25/pp/day for maid service. They have a sign on the front desk counter that tells about the charges, but no one says anything about it. If you stay here, check this out. Make sure you know what you are going to be charged for.The advertising for the hotel says that they have 2 restaurants, but one is really just a bar, and the other had a limited menu for lunch and dinner, but had a nice breakfast menu. There is no entertainment or organized activities, so if you are looking for that type of thing, you'll have to pay more to stay at the Hilton downtown or one of the resorts on Cable Beach. If you're looking for a reasonable place to make your home base, you may want to consider this place. Try to take buses whenever you can. A taxi ride from downtown to Cable Beach is $12 each way.
