Quaint Delight in Heart of Old Town A review of Astoria Hotel

I agree with many of the previous reviews. We moved here deliberately after a three-day conference at the Praha Hilton to finish out our week in the city. We expressly picked the place because of the balconies on the top floors and its great location. In contrast to the Hilton - which is significantly over-priced, not clean, has mixed service, a poor location and is too American in atmosphere and fellow clientele. Now, I agree that very little is cheap anymore in central Prague but in contrast to the Hilton which is designed like a 1970s communist bloc block of bureaucratic redundancy the Astoria possesses a very accommodating staff, spotless rooms, great breakfast buffet and ideal central location but reasonably quiet. We encourage you to request a room on a top floor with a balcony. There's nothing like a late afternoon sitting back with a glass of wine and some cheese and fruit (from the local Albert's supermarket in the basement under the Kotva department store) and looking across the city church towers to the Castle on the far bank of the Vlatva. Highly recommended.
