Pleasant Stay at the Phillips A review of Hotel Phillips
We had a lovely weekend stay at the Hotel Phillips. The staff was wonderful, as was the room. The hotel has been beautifully restored. Keep in mind that we were without a car (but enjoy walking) when reading this review.
If you want to be within walking distance of a shopping mall, this may not be the hotel for you. The hotel is a twenty minute walk from Union Station and Crown Mall. It's a pleasant walk in the daytime.
The River Market area, which has some interesting ethnic shops and restaurants, is a fifteen minute walk from the hotel. there are a few interesting antique shops in the River Market area too.
The 12 Baltimore bistro at the hotel served us a good meal from a very ecclectic menu, and there was live jazz in the evening. They had a nice house merlot and several local beers on tap. We didn't try the chop house restaurant in the hotel.
Dining options within walking distance of the hotel are limited. There are several large hotels with restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel. We stumbled upon a small Italian restaurant a few blocks from the hotel and had an excellent meal. The restaurant is named Sienna. The staff at Sienna were as friendly and helpful as the staff at the Hotel Phillips.
Mostly, we were impressed with the hotel staff. They seemed to be happy to work at the hotel, and wanted the hotel guests to enjoy their stay. They were both efficient and friendy. We definitely did not feel like we were staying in one of the "cookie cutter" luxury hotel chains.
We'd definitely stay at the Hotel Phillips again.
