Perfect Location A review of Floor Hotel
Just back from a 3 night stay in the Floor Hotel, Prague (Formerly known as Joe Hotel).
First off absolutely brilliant location - right off Wenscles Square. On a pedestrian shopping street (Zara, Mango and New Yorker to name a few of the well known shops).Within 5 minutes walking distance of the old town square and ten minutes to the steps leading up to the castle. Therefore all tourist sites are within a stone's throw away.
Opposite front of the hotel is the Metro the Green Line (Mustek Station)if you get the Metro 3 stops to Jiriho Z Podebrad you will see the TV Tower in which you can pay approx €5 to go to 150 metres high and you will have a fantastic view of the city (dusk is a gorgeous time to go - city by day and night).
The hotel itself - newly refurbished - very nice decor but our room was not finished to a perfect standard, but for somebody not overally fussy it wont affect your stay. Quiet at night, even though it was a very central location.
Hotel had very few facilities - very small reception area etc, However for a city break we didn't expect these.
Breakfast quite nice - not a huge choice but would probably cater for different tastes. This was served until 11.30 which is good for those who enjoy their extra few minutes sleep in the mornings.
Still a bit of minor ongoing work - but this did not affect our stay.
Staff extremely friendly and helpful unlike a lot of nationals we met during our stay.
Please note - don't try to speak the language unless helped by a Czech speaker - they don't acknowledge your attempts. We were advised by Czech friends not to try as even phonetical Phrase Books are no good. (We were quite embarrassed on one occasion trying to say thank you in Mc
Donalds - and were met with a rude remark)
We only had 2 minor compliants about our hotel.
Firstly the safe in our room did not work and after unsuccessfully attempting to reset it, the staff advised us that they would call an engineer to fix but this never came about (but in defense of the hotel we arrived mid weekend - on a Saturday, so they accomodated us by keeping our valuables in reception)
Secondly - there seemed a constant noise in our room coming from the air vent, although it appeared quite loud at night it was consistent and it did not prevent us from sleeping.
If you are looking for a good english speaking bar with cheap prices and good craic - go to Rocky O' Reillys Irish Bar- just off Wencles square - you can't miss the signs.
We went to Caffrey's Irish Bar in the Old town Square and weren't impressed - double the price of Rocky's and no atmosphere.
If you are looking for a city break with centrally located reasonably priced hotel the Floor Hotel is a brilliant place to stay.
