Perfect getaway A review of Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages
We were a little nervous about staying here after reading some of the user reviews, but my husband (an avid photographer) wanted to be as close to the Waimea Canyon as possible. We were pleasantly surprised and would definitely stay here again. We saw roosters, but did not hear any crowing at night. We did not have any bugs in our cottage. We stayed in cottage #69 - a 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage with an ocean view. (it was nice to have a separate room with twin beds for our two daughters). We had a wonderful porch where we could sit and enjoy the ocean breeze. It was fabulous. We fell asleep each night to the sound of the surf. We were worried about not having A/C, but the breezes from the ocean and the ceiling fans were sufficient. And maybe the cottage wasn't plush, but it was quaint and homey- it was like staying at grandma's beach-house. We liked the fact that the pool is only 4 feet deep - no teenagers jumping in and splashing us! The pool was clean and most of the time there were only a few other people in it. I thought the cottages were going to be remote and isolated, but the town of Waimea is only a mile or so away and has a grocery store, restaurants, bakery, deli, a SUBWAY. We stayed here for 5 of our 12 nights in Hawaii, and wish we had spent the entire vacation here. It was so peaceful, quiet and relaxing. Great for families!
