Penn's View Was the Best for BIO2005! A review of Penn's View Hotel

After a reviewing a bewildering array of hotels for the recent BIO2005 conference in Philly (June 19-23), I decided to take a risk in April on booking something other than a chain hotel. The city was packed with conference goers-there wasn't a room left anywhere by the day it began. It is always a risk when a woman travels alone but the Penn's View sounded charming. IT WAS! When I arrived early I already knew my room wasn't going to be ready but Antonio at the front desk was so apologetic for the delay. I said it wasn't a problem and went outside on the little patio to wait. Next thing I know, Antonio is outside apologizing again for the delay and offered me fresh italian coffee-which he then delivered in a delightful manner - literally on a silver platter. At this point, I was content to just stay on the patio for the afternoon! Then, he came out once again, explaining it was taking longer as some were slow to check out. I wasn't angry, the hotel only had 52 rooms and I had arrived early. After finishing two delightful cups of coffee and getting my bearings, Antonio informed me that my bags had been taken up to UPGRADED room from the standard Queen tof a KING with jacuzzi and fireplace. The corner room on the third floor was beautifully appointed and filled with light. I had ample room to write my articles and a heavenly bathroom to relax in after walking the conference all day. Housekeeping was a gem and I liked the marking of the sheets everyday to assure that they had been changed. The toiletry selection was nice and the included bubble bath for the jacuzzi was perfect. Located in Old Town, it was easy to get around and see the sights. Of course, anyone must be careful in the city and I don't advise walking dark streets on your own in the wee hours. I literally was the only person at the conference who wasn't complaining about their hotel. Others I talked to were staying at the Hyatt, the Holiday Inn, the OMNI, the Comfort Inn, etc and everyone had something negative to say. As for me, I felt I was staying with some rather elegant, shabby chic members of my extended family who were determined to ensure my comfort. When I left. my bags were retrieved in a matter of moments and the cab was waiting by the front door. Don't pass up this beauty and its outstanding service! THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR MAKING MY STAY SO DELIGHTFUL!
