Paradise A review of Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort

We stayed here for 4 nights at the start of our honeymoon. After being delayed with Air France for 17 hours and then, them losing our luggage (for 5 days) we were so relieved to get to the resort and stunned at how beautiful it was. The resort is on its own atoll which is v small and can be walked around in 10 minutes. We were initially upgraded to a premium beach bungalow which was directly on the beach and had its own terrace and hammock. We were greeted with champagne too which was a nice touch!

The bungalow was quite big and v clean. However the bathroom is outside which is v pretty but lets the mosquitoes find you. Also, people could walk past and disturb you. We had booked a prem overwater for the rest of our stay so we asked if we could be upgraded earlier and this wasnt a proble.! One of the couples we met had even been upgraded to an overwater suite from an ordinary beach bungalow. The suite was lovely and included a bath and a feeding panel in the floor for the fish. (the premium OW didnt have this).

It seemed that most people had been upgraded as the resort was quite quiet.

We were on a meal plan which we were glad of as food was very expensive but very good. Staff were accommodating but speaking French certainly helps.

The resort itself is v clean and the waters are v warm with lots of fish. Sharks were swimming under bungalow 9 next to ours most mornings. We had bungalow 7 which was right at the end of the promenade and v private. I would recommend asking for it. At some points under the bungalows closer to the beach the current was too fast to swim but the further out you go, the easier it is to get into the water from your terrace.

We did hire bikes from the hotel and went across to Tikehau island itself. The bikes are very old and ucomfortable but did the job. However they were 2000 pacific francs each which was about é18! We circled the island in about an hour and met lots of friendly locals. The shopkeeper even opened up during his lunch hour so we could buy food before the boat took us back.

You can also hire backs on the same street as the main shop but i dont think there is a huge price difference.

One complaint was the lack of AC in our overwater bungalow. Odd as the beach bungalow had it. It was v hot at times and the fan just wasn't enough!

All in all though we had a great time here and totally relaxed. The manageress helped us track down our bags and had them delivered to us. The Maitre d' at the restaurant was v friendly and entertaining.

Definitely take the meal plan though as it would be v expensive without it!
