Overwhelmed by Gator Bowl Fans A review of Embassy Suites Hotel Jacksonville - Baymeadows
Was management not expecting the hords of guests who came into town for the bowl game? Towels were not replaced. The bathroom amenities were limited to small bottles of shampoo and lotion and small bars of soap. I sorely missed hair conditioner. On Sunday, January 1 the line at the manager's reception snaked through the eating area. Initially, only one person was pouring beverages. Later the on-duty manager did appear to help. Unfortunately, the line was again present on January 2. The snacks were disappointing; potato and corn chips and salsa. Perhaps in consolation, the drinks were generous. Breakfast on January 2, 2006 was a zoo! Obviously, many of the guests had large number of bodies crammed into their suites. The crowd was overwhelming and the floor was a sticky mess. The food was depleted. Half frozen doughnuts were put out at 9:00 a.m. Speaking of breakfast - only eggs are available at the "cook to order station". I would rate the breakfast poorly compared to other Embassy Suites. The morning of January 1 only one fruit (melon) was presented. The hot dishes never vary. In fact they are listed so you can be certain that the choice will be scrambled eggs, pancakes, grits, hash browns, sausage & bacon. Pass on the hash browns as they are "reconstitued potatoes" and have that "instant potato" flavor.
The property is a bit "worn". I had the distinct impression that there are financial issues. This is not a top notch Embassy Suites. I do not understand its high rating.
