Overpriced and under-cleaned A review of The Saratoga Hilton
We stayed one night at the Prime Hotel during Saratoga Springs' busy racing and music festival season. Perhaps that had something to do with the state of our room, but after reading other reviews of this property, I doubt it. When we checked in at nearly 4 pm, there was a bundle of dirty towels and linens laying on the hallway floor just outside our door. The bathroom floor had hairs on it from either the cleaning staff or previous occupants, and the tub hadn't been properly cleaned. The room was large and the furnishings nice in a bland sort of way, but not what I'd have expected for a hotel that was charging $399/night (we booked through Expedia and paid "only" $299+tax). The bath & shower amenities were vitually non-existant (I've had better at Quality Inns). I made the mistake of removing my shoes, and nearly hobbled myself by stepping on a small piece of gravel on the floor, which the cleaning staff had missed. There was a coffee maker in the room, but when I removed the filter tray to make coffee, I put it back in disgust: it had obviously not been cleaned in months.
The layout of the hotel is bad, the sole functioning elevator tiny and inadequate for a hotel with so many rooms. We were so disgusted with the lack of cleanliness in our room, there was not way we would chance eating in the restaurant! That said, I looked at the room service menu and it was quite reasonable, assuming the food was edible. However, my overall impression? A Prime rip-off!
