Overinflated Opinion of Itself A review of Doubletree Hotel Houston Downtown
I stayed at the Doubletree Houston - Allen Center for 4 days for business in July. I'm really suprised at all of the glowing reviews on this site. The hotel was just adequate. Not adequate for an urban Doubletree -- adequate for a small town roadside motel. The rooms were just kinda OK, cleanliness was acceptable, and the lobby/decor was so-so. The exercise facility was extremely poor: only 1 treadmill, a cheapo lightweight model with no heart rate monitors, 2 ellipticals, 2 bikes, and TVs wtih the channel change button broken and no remote. No pool either. You had to use valet parking which was slow and cost $20/day - no self park. High speed internet was $10/day and it was not wireless. I was attending a conference in the hotel, and the food for our meetings was really poor: not just hotel bland, but bad. The only really good thing about this hotel was that I called for an early checkin and they were very accomodating about that. The location was right in downtown Houston - but there is nothing in downtown Houston. Also, access to the hotel from the freeway was difficult, although the hotel was very close to the freeway. Long story short: For the money, stay somewhere else. I'm sure there are much nicer hotels in Houston.
