Overall very pleased A review of Cottage Inn by the Sea
Thank you to all that took the time to review the hotel. Based on your reviews (and the price) we selected this hotel for a weekend getaway.
Non-view traditional room was $130 on Orbitz first weekend in January.
The hotel is very cute. The cottage theme carried through the interiors, exteriors and grounds. The two queen rooms are spacious. The king rooms a little smaller but nice. All have wallpaper decor, comfortable beds, fridge and micro, and a gas fireplace (which is thermostat controlled so will only come on when the thermostat is pushed above the room temperature). We happened to see 5 different rooms during our stay. We went with my wife's parents. While our room was great, their first room lacked a dresser, so they were moved to another room that was for handicapped with a very institutional bathroom and carpet in need of vacuuming. After being accidentally moved to another handicapped room, they were upgraded to an ocean view room. So, while generally well kept up, some rooms do need a little attention. And the staff, while not highly professional was better than most. Suggest if you desire a good ocean view get a second floor room.
This hotel is especially close to busy Highway 101. View rooms are well away from the highway. For non-view rooms, be sure to request a room away from the highway and you'll be fine.
There is a nice garden at the bluff where you can sit and enjoy the sea below. As of January 2004, the stairs down to the beach have been closed because they are dangerous. There is beach access a couple blocks away (5-10 minute walk).
The breakfast was your typical serve yourself hotel continental breakfast somewhat upgraded with a little better selection, and you can drink out of real glasses instead of styrofoam.
