Over-the-top hotel with out of this world view A review of St. Regis Princeville Resort
This was our seventh hotel and our last stop on a two week trip. The Lobby is big enough to hold an auto show inside. They upgraded us to a fabulous ocean view because we were Starwood members. The beds have way too much stuff on them- by the time you pull all the pillows off and the heavy comforter, you're exhausted. The dark green marble bathroom with gold everything could be the setting of an adult movie- but not terribly functional....several slippery steps into a tub you can drown in with a monster shower head from a Seinfeld episode...the whole bathroom gets wet. It's a rather confusing elevator journey to the pool and beach- great pool- and that's important because the beach sand is more like dirt...Food was very good- the best Tiramisu we've ever had-and if you share things at breakfast, a couple can have a great breakfast for $20 and be full. The wait staff are lovely- but we found that all over the islands- Hawaiian are very friendly, polite people.
But clearly, the best part of this hotel is the jaw dropping view that changes by the hour...I couldn't stop taking pictures and none of them do it justice. Its simply unbelievable. We went next door to the Hanalei Bay Resort for dinner at Bali Hai- view not as good- food quite mediocre and almost as expensive. It rained one day, but we sat in one of the four hot tubs, drinking MaiTai's and drinking in the view-now that's Heaven!
