Once Is Enough A review of Lakeside Inn
Love Mount Dora which we usually visit on a day trip, but this time my husband surprised me with a Sun-Mon Valentines Getaway to the Lakeside Inn. I was really looking forward to it as I had admired the hotel, its perfect Lake Dora setting and beautiful majestic oak grounds. Sadly our experience at the hotel was disappointing. First both front desk clerks were unwelcoming and pretty close to rude when we arrived. We let that go and went on to our room. I knew the hotel was old (1883) so I was expecting a grand old lady. What we got was a tired run down has been. Though we checked in after 4pm, there was still laundry, dirty dishes, and bags of trash all up and down the hallways. The housekeepers were yelling at each from one end of the long hallway to the other. It was a relief to get into the room and close the door. And what a view. We had unit 7126 with a glorious view of the river through expansive windows. Unfortunately it felt like 90 degrees in there as the heat was on and the afternoon sun shinning on the windows. Fortunately there was individually controlled A/C. Unfortunately the filter and face of the A/C was so dusty and dirty that our sinuses are still paying for and will for days. There were only two lights in the room, one by the bedside and the other in ceiling which three of the four bulbs were burned out. The ceiling fan itself only had two speeds, on at high or off. There wasn't even a box of tissues to be found in the room. My husband ordered the valentines special which included breakfast and dinner at the on premise restaurant. The food was outstanding, the service indicative of the rest of the personnel with the exception of Mary our Valentines Day waitress who was outstanding, friendly and efficient. The hotel did roll the grand piano out of the bar into the restaurant so we were able to enjoy wonderful live piano music over our romantic Valentines Dinner which was excellent. Meanwhile the bar was another service issue, we ordered vodka martinis and received vanilla vodka martinis like we woudn't know the difference. Mount Dora seems to have added some new restaurants, one of our favorites is Pisces Rising which was out of this world and the Fifth Avenue Deli which is an organic only restaurant with some surprisingly good combinations.
