OK for your first trip to Bora Bora A review of InterContinental Thalasso-Spa Bora Bora
We have been to Bora Bora two times, and have always stayed at the Bora Bora Nui. It is the best hotel on the island, as you will see. We did decide to use some of our Platinum Reward Points and stay at the Thalasso Spa. What a mistake....
Please keep in mind that we are very polite, respectful, and easily pleased individuals.
Upon arrival, the grounds ARE gorgeous. The views are great (as most are in Bora Bora) and the water was very turquoise. The chek in process was great, and the Bungalows are beautiful (minus some missing artwork yet to be put in place). We got into the water to find only that it is very cloudy, there are no fish, and when you step into the sand...you sink a good six inches in disgusting goo.
The food for lunch was ok. NO ONE spoke english at the lunch restaurant. Dinner....HORRIBLE. No english speakers whatsoever. We were given ONION SOUP...chopped onions (hundreds of them, I swear) in water. The steak had no flavor, nor any taste, and was disgusting. Service was awful. The happy hour bar tender informed us of the 2 for 1 specials. We had to argue with him after we were charged for all of our drinks. He did not understand what 2 for 1 meant. Again, no one spoke english, and he argued with us forever. In the morning, breakfast left a lot to be desired. No orange juice refills, no coffee refills....etc. The restaurants' decor is beautiful...much like a W hotel. However, it was not "tropical." IT was very modern...and seemed out of place. Did I mention this is mosquito island? They were EVERYWHERE
We decided to leave the next day and go to the Bora Bora Nui. We discussed the problems with the front desk at the Thalasso....and were told the manager was not available. We were told to come back in a few minutes. So, we went to the concierge to use the Internet (which is $28 and hour) and were immediately told by the concierge that we should stay at the Thalasso and he would do everything to try to make it better....THE CONCIERGE.
Upon checkout, the manager never appologized, looked at us, or talked to us (keep in mind we are Platinum Members) and he just stood in the corner....unoccupied. We were only told by the Front Desk lady that she was sorry for everything, as they are having a lot of problems, and were debating whether or not they should have opened.
If this is your first time in Bora Bora....it should be a great place to stay, as you will not have experienced the beautiful coral, thousand of fish, powder sand, and first class service every other hotel offers. I would highly, HIGHLY, reccomend staying at the Bora Bora Nui (see review). Same price, beautiful water, powder sand, excellent food, and FIRST CLASS SERVICE. The best service.
