Ok, but not great A review of Hotel Viking
I stayed at the Viking Hotel Over Valentines Day weekend this year. I got engaged here that weekend, so I guess it will always have a special spot in my heart, but other than that, I found our stay rather unmemorable. We stayed in the "historic" wing, and our room was very small, our bathroom miniscule (I mean TINY). Our room did have a very nice view of Newport, though, I will say that. The service wasnt so great. we left our "Please make up room" sign on our door all day and came back in the evening to find it had not been done (maybe an oversight??who knows), and we called the front desk one evening and told them we had a tray of dishes(champagne glasses, an ice bucket and a dirty plate) we needed to be taken away, and the next morning and the entire next day until we checked out they were still there outside our door (as were our neighbors' dishes). The food was Ok (service was very slow, I think our waitor was a little "out of it"), but not great (We ate at the Red Parrot downtown one night, and would highly recommend it.) Did not eat breakfast there due to the 45 minute wait, so we went down to ANNIE's down the street which was really yummy! The Viking is indeed a historic hotel. It has a unique quality about it, but it just isnt quite up to snuff. I hear the more expensive, newer rooms are nice, but I have not seen them first hand. The staff was rather inattentive as well. It was not a disastrous stay, but we would not go back. Luckily Newport was beautiful, as always!!! Maybe we will try the Hyatt or a bed and breakfast next time.
