OK, but not a destination resort A review of Horseshoe Bay Resort Marriott

We stayed for 3 nights during spring break.

The lobby when you walk in smells like smoked sausage, kind of a turn off. It is also decorated in the most bizarre way. Kind of felt like Austin Powers.

We had a doubled bedded room. It was nothing special. Quite small for our family of 4. We thought, after reading on the website, that the rooms had sleeper sofas. I asked about them after we checked in and we were told there were some in the condos next door, but this was not offered to us as an option.

After we checked in, we headed down to the pool bar for lunch. As we were waiting in line for 20 minutes just to order a burger, some of the people around us were complaining. One lady was there to write a review on it for a magazine in New York. She was to compare the Marriott to the Hyatt Hill Country Resort. She said they were not even in the same category. A few things she pointed out: no pool service, they list 4 pools but only one is heated and you have to drive to some, bad food, etc.

We went to another pool one day just for some sun and quiet. Walking up it looked great, however, the pool was filty and the door was falling off the bathroom and it couldn't close.

My family enjoyed the putting course, but at $25 ea. it's quite pricey.

My husband loved the marina! We brought our boat and rented a slip with a lift for the weekend. The hotel is not on the lake, so you have to walk a bit to get there though. I think the slip was $40/night.

All in all, the resort is fine, just nothing special. I think it is quite over priced considering it's not on the lake. We probably will go there again only because of the marina for our boat. This is not a destination resort, but a fine place to spend a weekend.
