Oasis in the Urban Sprawl A review of Hotel Palomar Dallas - A Kimpton Hotel
I found this hotel as a special deal when combining with flights on Expedia. Boy, am I glad I did. I was in Dallas for a 2 day convention at the Adam's Mark, which was full, as were all the surrounding hotels. What a stroke of luck.
The hotel has only recently opened, and I think the design is top class. The rooms were big and nicely designed - and I always like a big flat screen TV! There is a spa and swimming pool, but unfortunately, I didn't have time to try these.
I did, however, eat at the restaurant, which was superb. I would highly recommend it, even if you are not staying at the hotel. The bar was also very cool, and had a nice buzz even for a Tuesday night.
There is an area across the street with some bars and restaurants if you are looking for some more options. We ate at one of them (sorry, can't remember the name) which was very upscale, but nowhere near as good as the hotel restaurant.
Free high-speed wireless, for those who care.
The only negative, and this really annoyed me...
the first morning we needed to be at the conference by 8am. We were in the lobby and requested a taxi at about 7.35 (it is only about 10 minutes to where we were going). After waiting 20 minutes - for a taxi!!! - I asked for an update, and they said it always took this long in the morning - well thanks for letting us know when we asked them to call the cab. I then enquired if they had a car service, they did, but told us they could only take guests to a location within a 3 mile radius, and we just happened to be going 4 miles away. What a joke, so we ended up waiting 40 minutes for a taxi. This was really poor.
However, overall, it was a great hotel to stay in - the first time I really wished my wife was me just to enjoy being in a classy hotel with her.
