Not your usual Hilton A review of Hilton St Petersburg Bayfront
I just came back from a weekend trip to St. Petersburg and stayed at the St Petersburg Hilton. This is an older hotel with a little bit of a musty smell. Common areas were fine, nothing too fancy. I was upgraded to the Mini suite (due to my Hilton Elite status) it was huge and spacious but the room was in serious need of new paint, new carpet, new drapes and bedspeads. Everthing was very outdated, carpet stained, walls looked dirty and windows were filthy. The bathroom looked as though it had been recently remodeled and it was very clean. The check in counter was very friendly as well as most of the other staff I encountered. The restaurant breakfast buffet was probably the worst I had ever seen in my life. Let me start with a huge pan full of "green" scambled eggs, looked as though they had been sitting there for 4-5 hours, hard and getting crusty. There was also bacon, sausage, homefries, and a pan of soggy french toast, that was the "hot bar." Then they had 3 different canned fruits in bowls on the iced bar with a yogurt or two tossed around the bowls. The bread bar was white bread and a couple pieces of wheat thay were hard from being left out too long and a pile of the flatest english muffins I had ever seen, definately not "thomas's'" A few boxed cereals, a couple muffins, and some danish. It may not sound too bad but it is one that has to be seen to appreciate how awful it really was, and I'm not that picky. The price was 10.95 Per person. Sunday morning which was my checkout day the maid came knocking down my door at 930AM, when I opened it she asked me what time I was checking out. That is the first time I've encountered a maid waking me out of a dead sleep to ask me what time I am leaving. Anyway, I would definately not recomend the hotel and I was sorry I did not book the Hampton Inn & Suites which was brand new and right down the street in a little bit of a better location, closer to downtown St Pete restaurants and shops. I went with the Hilton basica to be a notch a two above the Hampton Inns. Definately NOT the case! Sometimes you get what you pay for. My stay was not completely awful but it was definately not what you would expect if you are used to staying in "other" Hiltons or Marriotts like me.
