Not Worth The Price A review of BEST WESTERN PLUS Shelter Cove Lodge

Although the views are spectacular, the service and the rooms are second rate, particularily considering the price, which is steep. Essentially what you are getting is a Motel 6 room with a great view. But, unless you intend to spend all day in your room staring at the Pacific, that alone isn't worth the price.

The young and indifferent staff seems disinterested in helping much. Maybe they are young actors waiting for a big break, who knows? They tend to fix you with a blank stare and seem to think you should just be grateful you are staying there at all, I guess in expectation that you might see a dolphin swim by. Whoopie!

The rooms are actually a little threadbare, bathrooms have lots of little irritating things that don't work right and the carpets tend to be less than sparkling clean. Keep your shoes on.

A far better value is the (BW) Shore Cliff Lodge just down the road which has even more spectacular views. Be SURE to ask for a RE-MODELED room, though, they are beautiful, and the staff here is much more friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is bare bones and actually quite grim, but it will tide you over until lunch. (The Coffee is not Starbucks by a long shot, but decent.)

Would I stay at Shelter Cove again? Probably not. But I would stay at Shore Cliff Lodge, any time.

Just skip the breakfast, unless you have a thing for overcooked hard boiled eggs, stale pastries and unripe fruit. In fact, go to one of the local wineries and try a few free wine samples. You'll feel lots better.
