Not worth the price A review of The Sands Resort
I just stayed at the Sands Resort last weekend (June 7th, 2003). For the price, I would have expected a more modern facility (I paid $200 for 2 nights, a Saturday and Sunday). The dresser was spun around backward and the drawers put back in backward to get more "mileage" (tacky). My 18 month old kept bending the drawer handles all around (el cheapo) and a corner trim strip on the wall kept coming loose and falling across the hall (my husband wrangled with it in the middle of the night trying to get to the bathroom). The kitchen was not well stocked at all. Perhaps it was only meant for 2 people (vs. a family of 4). There was one frying pan which I wasn't willing to put any of MY food in (yuck). The beams holding up the walkways to the 2nd and 3rd floors were rotting (yikes). I was in a different building than a couple of the other reviewers. Our building did not have the fireplaces and was not across the street. The carpet in our unit seemed newer... nothing smelled bad. The kids had a great time in the indoor pool (after getting used to the temperature...brrrr. They enjoyed the hot tub too. I mainly chose this resort because of the indoor pool and the pet allowance. Next time I think I'll try the Polynesian. If I really really have to, I'll go to the Sands again, but I'll probably try to see if the staff is willing to haggle with the price and bring it down another $20 or $30 a night.
