Not up to standards A review of DFW Airport Hotel & Conference Center
Booked the Clarion via the Choice Hotels website as is typical for me. I travel about half the year on business and usually stay in one of the Choice brand hotels.
The Clarion South DFW Airport is not up to the usual Clarion Hotel standards. In fairness to them, they did have a sign in the lobby indicating that they were remodeling but it appears as though that remodel was restricted to the hotel restaurant. The whole hotel is looking worn though and could use an upgrade. The room is typical Clarion layout and the furniture was in decent shape. The mattress was older though and probably should have been replaced some time ago. The bathroom was dated looking, but clean. The shower head was a Shower Massage by Waterpik which is usually a plus for me as I like the massage feature after flying and driving but the head was too low which forced me to stoop under it to wash my hair - and I'm only 5'10" tall. For anyone over 6 foot the shower head will be at about eye level.
I requested a no smoking room and the sign on the door indicated that it was non-smoking but there was a faint odor of smoke in the room. Come to find out it was coming from the bedspread which had a couple of cigarette burns in it. I requested it be changed and let them know that no matter how many times they washed it, it would always smell of smoke to someone that doesn't smoke.
The staff was pleasant but not particularly knowledgable. They fumbled with the computer to locate my reservation as well as the reservations of other guests checking in at the same time. Additionally, when I called from Waco to get directions, the clerk told me that Waco was about 3 hours away when in actuality its only about an hour and 15 minutes.
These may all seem like minor annoyances but they add up. There are several other hotels in the area of the airport and the next time I visit, I'll be sure to check one of them out instead.
