Not too impressed A review of The Hotel Captain Cook
No matter what hotel you choose in Anchorage it will be a bit of a shock to the wallet. So I decided to splurge for 2 days at the Cook. My first impression was it's not a bright and cheery place.
We arrived at 9pm and checked in. When we got to our room the thermostat was at 81 degrees in our room. I called the front desk because I couldn't find the air conditioner. Thats because there isn't one. So we had to turn the ceiling fan on high and open the windows. I know Alaska doesn't get that hot, but when the bright sun is shining down on a dark building, the rooms heat up. Also we had a very weak and luke warm shower. We had just gotten back from a camping trip and a good strong shower would have been nice.
You would think that a shuttle service to the airport would be available at such a popular tourist hotel. Nope! Had to use the taxi's. My parents stayed at a marriot further in town and they had a shuttle, and they paid much less a night to stay there.
The great thing with the Cook is it's location. It is centrally located to everything a tourist wants access to. All the shopping ,dining, museums, and even walking trails.
All in all, for the price I paid I expected more.
