Not the best in the area A review of La Quinta Inn & Suites Minneapolis Bloomington W

Stayed 3 nights at the Clarion in Oct. 2004. The purpose of my trip was to shop at the Mall Of America. The hotel offered shuttle pick up from the airport and to and from the mall.

Going to and from the mall was a hassle. For example the mall closed at 7pm on Sunday but I didn't make it back to the hotel until 9pm, because of the way the shuttle ran. I called the hotel before 7:00 to see if the shuttle could come early to get me, I was told the driver was going to the airport and couldn't stop at the mall even though it was on the way because it just wasn't done. Another couple that was waiting at the stop also said that they had called and they were told that the shuttle would be sent early. (which ended up being a lie) So we waited 1hr1/2 for the shuttle, when it finally came we ended up having to ride to the airport to do a pick up. So I guess the shuttle can go to the mall to the airport but not the airport to the mall. I had other bad experiences with the shuttle but enough of that. My suggestion is that if you want to stay at this hotel get a car or plan on taxi fares.

As for the hotel it self. Check in was great. I got to check in early around 11:am and got my room. Room had a king size bed, very nice reclining chair, desk w/office chair and a coffee pot. Room was nice but the carpet looked like someone had tried to iron it, there was burn marks all over. The room was clean though. Bathroom was ok seperate sink area from the tub/toliet area, which I like. I did not have one of the rooms with a fridge or microwave but I only paid $50. a night so I can't complain. I did not eat in the Restaraunt because I was warned by everyone I ran in to not to eat there. I did get a fish sandwich that came with potato chips to go and it came to over $15.00. It was good but not worth it. There are no other places to eat close by. There was an Olive garden about 6 blocks up, I did not feel safe walking in the area at night. Really there is nothing else in the area to do in walking distance. Hotel has a cozy indoor pool wouldn't of been bad but the water was cold. Hot tub water was warm not hot and it made a strange noise. I think that they had it fixed. Staff was extremely nice until I complained about the shuttle and the desk clerk working that night who had lied and was rude. They got defensive like it was my fault I was lied to. Another couple I talked to said they tried to complain about the same girl and the manager wouldn't come out to listen. I got the feeling that the hotel couldn't care less about the tourist staying there. They seemed focased on the North West employees that they have a contract with. And other business clientle. Check out was also easy and the hotel did hold my luggage for me because I had a late flight. So to sum up this hotel: most staff is nice, rooms are decsent. If you don't plan to eat here, swim here, or use the shuttle for the mall, or be in an happening area it's not a bad place to stay.
