Not the best experience A review of Hotel Phillips

We stayed at the Hotel Phillips two years ago (I would have posted a review sooner had I known it was available). We loved the looks of the hotel and the rooms and got really good rates off of Travelocity. We stayed there with a group consisting of five couples. We make annual spring trips together but will NEVER stay at this hotel again!! On the Saturday morning of our stay, someone got into 2 of our 5 rooms and stole a purse and a total of $400 from two of the couples.

Ironically, the maid was cleaning on our end of the hall in the 5-minute time period that this occurred. My friend was in her shower across the hall from me and $200 cash was taken from her dresser during the time she was in the shower. I was in my shower across the hall and heard the maid knock on my door and asked her to please come back later and when I came out of the shower, my purse was gone from the couch where I had left it. It was later recovered in the lobby with around $200 cash missing from it.

Long story short, we got zero backing from the hotel management. A police report was filed but no charges pressed because it could not be proven that the maid had taken the money (although, a scan of the hotel locks showed that she had been in both of our rooms that morning!). The best that the hotel would do for us was offer the other couple and my husband and myself dinner at their restaurant (which we declined). I was extremely disappointed in how this was handled; it felt as if the hotel management were questioning our integrity in the entire matter. Needless to say, I will never again stay at this beautifully refurbished hotel again, and I take every chance I can get to tell friends staying in the KC area to steer clear of iit as well. It is a shame that they put all that money into restoring the hotel but forgot somewhere along the way how to take care of their customers!
