Not Sure I Would Stay Again A review of The Bay Club at Waikoloa Beach Resort
We took our 3 children on their first trip to Hawaii in December, 2004 and it was wonderful. I am extremely particular about our accomodations as this was our first trip using HGVC.
We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for the first week in a 3 bedroom penthouse. It was awesome! There were plenty of activities for us as well as the children. The second week we stayed at The Bay Club - big disappointment. Check-In was quick however, the woman who waited on us had an attitude and was not very welcoming. Our condo was a 2 bd and 2.5 bath - very spacious and airy. The lanai was great and it overlooked the waterfall and pool area which was nice. However, there were ants all over the kitchen and bathrooms. Nothing could be left out on the counter for fear of ants. Beds were not very comfortable and left us with soar backs in the mornings. Spots & crumbs on the dining room table as it had not been wiped down prior to our arrival. Housekeeping NEVER answered their phone when I called - I ALWAYS got voicemail. Also, housekeeping is only open until 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. Resorts need to have service available to guests 24 hours. Extra towels cost money - they did not replenish them for free and they never came during the week to "refresh" your room. Pool size was a disappointment and one of the gentlemen at the activities desk was a jerk to me when I asked about using a coupon from one of their Hawaiian Guides. Pool at the Marriott Waikoloa was much larger and had a great beach with activities.
We went to the Big Island Steakhouse for dinner one evening and had great food and excellent service. Be prepared to pay alot of money for dairy products (milk, yogurt & cheese) and orange juice at the grocery store.
To me, this is not a very service oriented place to stay unless you want to be totally left alone while you are there. Would I stay there again - not with my family and only if I could not find another place to stay.
