Not really a vacation hotel A review of DoubleTree by Hilton Nashville-Downtown

The location's good, just a couple of blocks from Printer's Alley and 10 minutes walk to Broadway, but this hotel just has no atmosphere. The front desk staff weren't particularly friendly and seemed to be trying to look down on us because we had booked at a discount via Expedia rather than direct with them (heaven knows what they're like if you get it through Priceline!).

Their security is also dreadful. I took a safe deposit box for passports and money etc, and never once got asked to sign when I accessed it. On the day we checked out the hotel key was already in the room with the boxes and again, I didn't have to sign. Just be warned if you're leaving valuables.

The rooms were adequate but nothing special. We had planned to stay again en route from Gatlinburg to Memphis, but decided to cancel and go straight through to Memphis.

This hotel is probably fine if you're in Nashville on business, but for a vacation you want something with a bit of life.
