Not disappointed but not impressed... A review of Hotel Praia Ipanema
I stayed at the hotel in the beginning of April 2005. First the good things, the hotel is located in front of the beach and every room has some view of the beach. The free breakfast was good, included eggs, meats, fruit, juices, etc. The hotel had a small fitness room and business center with internet access.
Now for the bad things, I'm not a high maintenance traveller but the room looked like it was from the 70's. The furniture and bathroom needed to be renovated. We stayed on the 11th floor based on a travel guide's advice, but the rooms on the 10th floor and below looked to have been renovated. So maybe you should request those rooms when booking. The hotel is really on the edge of Leblon and Ipanema so its a walk or taxi ride to get to the center of activity in either of these neighborhoods. Staff was nice enough but not overly helpful or friendly.
For what we paid ($140 a night) I just thought the hotel would have been nicer. Staying in the room we stayed in, in Brazil I would expect to pay $99 a night max. Next time, I would just spend 10 more dollars a night and stay at one of the other hotels in Ipanema, Everest Plaza/Rio or Ipanema Plaza.
