Not a happy experience A review of The York by Swiss-Belhotel
Reception was friendly but apartment smelled of cigarette smoke even though I had requested non-smoking - was then informed no non-smoking accomodation in the hotel - a noisy extractor was used but it only helped a little. The one bedroomed aptmnt that I had was spacious and nicely decorated but bathroom was not ensuite to bedroom but about 12 metres away near the entry door. No dishwasher in the rather tired kitchen - but the hotel is being renovated - what frightened me was that I think this was one of the renovated units! And they got a job lot of BRIGHT yellow tiles in the bathroom. Position would be ok in the day time but very little open for shopping or food at night. A good breakfast in an empty restaurant attached to the units. Was horrified when charged A$171 for four local phone calls when using the phone to dial-up a local number ISP. Was told it was because I used the data port - but I had no option as phone was on the wall. This was NOT a broadband connection and cost me $12 an hour. The amount is in dispute. I visit Sydney regularly but won't stay here again.
