Not a good choice A review of Rydges on Swanston Melbourne
We recently stayed at this hotel for 5 nights during our tour of Australia but I would not stay there again. It was in a good position, very easy to get to the centre of Melbourne and other places, by tram as it is near the University but the hotel itself is very run down and looking in need of refurbishment which I understand is going to be done soon.
Rooms were small and rather dingy with plaster peeling off the walls, cleaning was not done very well and there was a layer of dust on a lot of furniture which was not cleaned when we were there. The corridors and lift were also rather dirty and run down, there was the same rubbish on the floor of the lift the whole time we were there!
The breakfast buffet had quite a lot of choice but the food was cold and rather overpriced and there was not enough staff to clear tables and restock items on the buffet, better and cheaper food was available just a short walk away.
We never found our way up to the pool as the lift no longer went to the top floor and you had to climb the stairs to get there, we tried once but the door was locked at the top so we gave up.
When we return to Melbourne we will stay in this area again but I'm sure we will find a better hotel for the price.
Thank you for taking the time to pass on your feedback.
